Quantitative and geomorphologic parameterization of megaclasts within mass-transport complexes, offshore Taranaki Basin, New Zealand

چکیده

Mass-transport complexes (MTCs) in sedimentary basins reflect the gravitational transport of sediments from shelf edge to abyssal plain. Megaclasts, large blocks hundreds meters long within MTCs, can record kinematic and information deemed essential understanding source-to-sink systems. Yet, deformation structures such megaclasts remain poorly understood. This study uses high-quality, three-dimensional (3-D) seismic reflection data deep-water Taranaki Basin offshore New Zealand analyze morphological character 123 propose a new classification scheme based on their morphometric properties. The are up 400 m tall, 1900 long, 1200 wide. In area, they high- moderate-amplitude features owing different lithologies continuous-to-contorted facies. be classified as undeformed, rotated, deformed, highly deformed internal deformational styles. Two kinds depressions observed basal shear zones further indicate whether transported or formed situ. Our demonstrates that quantitative parameterization provides important about processes more complete megaclast emplacement along continental margins.

Fault Visualization Enhancement Using Ant Tracking Technique and Its Application in the Taranaki Basin, New Zealand

The ant tracking technique has been widely used in fault interpretation. However, the reliability of the results is highly dependent on appropriately choosing signal processing method and volume attributes. In our study area, which lies in the southern Taranaki Basin, we applied Graphic Equalizer as the processing tool and the Chaos attribute before running the ant tracking algorithm. Results s...

Early Maori settlement impacts in northern coastal Taranaki, New Zealand

Pollen and charcoal analyses of sediments from northern coastal Taranaki, New Zealand, show that Maori settlement impacts on the vegetation began with the burning of tall coastal forest in the mid-17th century. Forest was replaced with a fern-shrubland, and small wetlands expanded with changing hydrological conditions. This forest clearance was much later than in most regions of the country, wh...

Mass-transport complexes and associated processes in the offshore area of Trinidad and Venezuela

Mass-transport complexes (MTCs) form a significant component of the stratigraphic record in ancient and modern deep-water basins worldwide. One such basin, the deep-marine margin of eastern offshore Trinidad, situated along the obliquely converging boundary of the Caribbean and South American plates and proximal to the mouth of the Orinoco River, is characterized by catastrophic shelfmargin pro...
